Local History and Tour: The French Creek Feeder Canal
May 15 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

The French Creek Feeder Canal, built in the late 1820s and early 1830s, marked a pivotal period in the region’s history by enabling industrial growth and helping towns and cities flourish. To ensure clear navigation along the Erie Extension Canal, additional water was needed to cross the summit west of Conneaut Lake, a challenge solved by channeling water from French Creek near Meadville.
Join us as Julia Catalano presents the history of this important canal, which connected Meadville to Conneaut Lake and linked to the Erie Extension Canal, ultimately creating a vital route between Pittsburgh and Lake Erie.
This event will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room at Wesbury’s Cribbs Residential Center, 31 Park Ave., Meadville, PA. RSVP by calling 814-332-9009.
