The Orphan Train movement has been a little-remembered part of our nation’s past. Between 1853 and 1929, more than 200,000 children were relocated by the orphan trains, which carried them westward from New York City and Boston to 47 different states. Over 2,500 of those children found new homes in Pennsylvania.
