A Ministry of Presence: Pastoral Care Volunteers Making a Difference

Through compassion, listening, and a shared sense of humanity, Wesbury’s Pastoral Care Volunteers offer a steady source of comfort and connection when they’re needed most. These dedicated volunteers, a quiet but meaningful presence, bring comfort, connection, and compassion to residents through a growing spiritual care visitation program. After completing specialized training for service in a clinical setting, they are equipped to support individuals of all faiths and backgrounds with sensitivity and respect.

Their training emphasized the importance of understanding their own beliefs while holding space for others, including those with differing spiritual perspectives. It also prepared them to provide thoughtful care to residents living with dementia and those experiencing grief and loss.

Today, these volunteers visit more than 40 residents each month, offering spiritual support through active listening, sacraments, vigil watches, and meaningful resources—ensuring each individual feels seen, heard, and supported.
